Any suggestions would be welcome, except see your doctor. I'll only do that if things get worse.

Really, it depends what's wrong with you. I find that, when I'm congested, horse radish is awesome! Now I would possibly just spoon some out of the jar and eat it, but if you can... find some corn beef, cook it, then just throw horse radish (as much as you can stand) on it. Mmmm, it works I promise. If it doesn't, you can shoot me.

never tried horse radish before, but I'll give it a go

I use red pepper, and of course, vitamin C.

Ecchinacea or goldenseal or both do wonders. You can find them at any health food store.
sometimes an onion or mustard plaster works well when placed on the chest as well.
grind an onion and then nuke it until soft and mushy. spread it on an old piece of cloth while still warm and lay it on your chest. stinks, lol, but workks to help break up the congestion.
hot tea nad honey help with the sore throat, if you have one.
always my dad's fav remedy, a shot of whisky and lots of blankets, lol.

I've allways found that some really hot buffalo wings will do the trick.
Make sure it's the wings with hotsauce on them though and not seasoning.
You'll want to breathe in the fumes while you're eating them.

um, vix, put it on your upper lip, and it clears your nose, for sure, and also breathing in steam works too, very well

Lots of water. And I use vix. Also shower tablets, things like that.

if you use vix, make sure you wash it off before going outdoors! you'll get namonia if you don't! and drink some chicken broth. that usually works. and tea works wonders!

Drink a lot of orange juice, or better yet just stick with drinking lots of water. Yeah, vix works well too. I rarely have a cold, those works for me.

I tried tea, and it really does help with the congestion.

I think the tea and orange juice is a good idea. Some of the medicines can also be effective. You might at least want to keep a drowsy-type cold medicine around so you can take it before bedtime so your cold symptoms don't keep you up all night. Theraflu tastes nasty, but it's also helpful and it doubles as a hot drink so the steam will also be helpful.

It seems like any amount of cold medicine that's supposed to help you stay asleep throughout the night and ease cold symptomes, leaves me lethargic and unable to stay awake the following day.

Tea and Lemon.

well as far as meds go, I take benidryl, but if you don't want the tired feeling the following day that accompanies it, try the benidryl quick melts. When I take that I'm not tired. Although, whenever I have a cold, I'm tired all the time anyway. I actually just got over a cold coupled with sinusitis. So I'm on some strong antibiotics for the sinusitis. So between all the cold meds and the proscription meds, my livingroom looks like a pharmicy. grin

Why lemon with the tea?

Post 19 by Voldemort (Account disabled) on Monday, 08-Oct-2007 10:37:36

Because lemon contains vitamin C, and Tea is healthy and will clear you up.

Someone told me that keeping the windows closed and the heating turned up full is what causes a cold because there's no fresh air, so keep where it's warm.

steer clear of dairy foods like cheese or too much milk - and I'm afraid chocolate. Also ignore the orange juice no matter how lush it is as they all create mucus which when you have a cold isn't able to be released in any way. Trust me this makes life a lot easier. I always find a good prawn or other currey from the Chinese takeaway clears the insides out too, but make sure you have tissues handy or you won't be able to take advantage. And I'm not saying you'll enjoy it but a hot shower put up so hot you can hardlybreathe is good too. I always take ibuprofen and put it with paracetamol or other paracetamol based medicine as well, that works too.

the reason you probably feel groggy the next day after taking cold meds is eeither because you didn't sleep long enough, or your system is still recooporating from the meds. rest and fluids are more things you need to make sure you get plinty of.

Mixing medications doesn't sound like a good idea.

Post 24 by Gilman Gal (A billy Gilman fan forever and always!!) on Monday, 10-Dec-2007 7:53:35

god no. don't do that!
